Who are you?
I’m Allison Clarke!
Oh cool….so you’re a singer or something?
Oh sorry! I guess you wanted a little more info. Yes, I’m a singer-songwriter living in Nashville, TN. I love cereal, Celine Dion and long walks on the beach.
How long have you been writing songs?
I started writing songs in high school and have been hooked ever since. There’s much more to the story on how songwriting has shaped me as a person and my walk in faith (which I will share another time), but for now I’ll say it’s been a way that I can create art from my moments of insecurity and weakness as well as times of celebration and joy. Songwriting is one of my favorite things to do here on earth, and I’m really excited to be sharing this expression of art with you guys.
What’s your musical style?
It usually lies somewhere along the spectrum of death metal and Creed, but for this album I went the more singer-songwriter route drawing from influences like Colbie Caillat, Ellie Holcomb, and John Mayer. Of course, there is a hidden track where I rap for five minutes that’s only available for the first fifty people who download the album (just kidding, there’s not. But maybe next time?).
Can you tell us about the songs on the EP?
There will be six, and I love each one for different reasons. I am truly excited for you guys to listen to the whole project. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll wonder if I’m harmonizing with myself again (a safe assumption). Some songs were written with great cowriters I’ve met here in Nashville in the past year, and I can’t wait to introduce you to them. Others were written with just me and my guitar on my bedroom floor.
The common theme is that all of them were written from a place of honesty and conviction, and I hope each song hits you in a real place and compels you to sing along. And if you don’t enjoy singing, maybe you could just snap to the kickdrum or something.
Will we get to know the stories behind the music?
Absolutely. One of my favorite parts of discovering new music is getting to know the stories behind the songs, so this is something I am very excited to share with y’all. I hope these stories will help you connect with my music even more. I’ll be releasing the stories behind the songs once the EP is released.
When can we expect your EP to be released?
Gosh, stop asking me all of these hard questions. You can expect new music to come out this spring. This is a vague timeframe, but just know that when the air starts to get warmer and it’s okay to wear white again, new music is coming soon. Seriously, though, I will post the release date as soon as I know!
If you could change anything about this interview, what would it be?
Probably the fact that you just asked me this question. #awkward
Okay, cool! Thanks for taking the time to talk with us about your new music.
Anytime! Talk to you soon.
